Technical Writing

I started copyediting technical papers for the oil & gas industry in 1994 at my dad’s engineering company. After getting my degree I worked in aviation consulting; writing, researching, and conducting various analyses for master planning studies and environmental assessments.

The art to technical writing is making complex concepts flow in an articulate manner and formatting the space for ease of reading: using lists, tables, and graphics where advantageous.

The excerpt from the Erie International Airport - Revised Air Cargo Forecast is a classis example of the type of technical writing and work that I managed as an aviation consultant. I researched, wrote, and formatted this study into a final document.

Hatch Mott MacDonald tasked me with bridging over 20 authors, 900 hundred pages, and 16 appendices into four volumes, which became their $20 million construction bid package. The challenge was formatting 110 sections without any consistent style elements. The outcome was the deadline was met, and the document looked as if written by one author.
