web copy

Writing content for a website can be challenging because of layout and technical considerations. The attention span of web surfers as well as the way they navigate websites must also be considered when writing and formatting web copy.

Camian came to me with a lot copy she had written and a website layout that had been designed to accommodate text in a specific way. She asked me to help her pull-out the important messages and organize the text to fit the layout. To achieve this, I first read through everything that she had written, highlighted the messages that stood out, and compared them with other websites selling similar services. For the home page copy I called Camian and asked what messages she felt were most important to relay. Based on that conversation and what I had highlighted, I created a two paragraph pitch. I trimmed and edited her bio page to focus on accomplishments, and edited her portfolio descriptions to be as inviting as the graphics. Our most challenging page was "services" because there was a lot of good information that unfortunately could not be separated into multiple pages for ease of reading and navigation. We settled on using bold headings to help readers scroll to the information they were looking for.

Having an established website for several years, Jeffery was looking for a professional copy edit to clean up some text. I edited each page with a professional eye, ensuring not to lose the "voice" he had created, distinct to his business. A solid copy edit takes your website from pro to professional.
